DIAMOND Radeon HD 3650 1GB: its place in the graphics card market

This is the new DIAMOND Radeon HD 3650 1GB which needs to find its place in the graphics card market, the decision to include a HDMI port was a good one and means it’s a decent option for HTPC users. The 1GB of RAM does seem a bit pointless, though, as performance on a whole is not what you would expect.

This AMD based HD 3650 graphics card was given a hands-on review by Tweak Town and covered over 15 pages, they summed up by saying “the last time we looked at a Diamond graphics card we were quite impressed, but this HD 3650 is a bit lack luster with poor performance and a very limited package. Personally I think that Diamond should have chosen to include a HDMI cable with the bundle and market it as more of a HTPC card.

Its single slot design and decent noise levels mean it would be a good addition for a HTPC.

The Diamond HD 3650 1GB isn’t a bad card, it’s just nothing all that great. These amounts of memory should really be reserved for only the highest end of cards. Dropping back to 512MB and adding a bit more of a bundle could have meant that the price would be similar and performance almost identical.

The higher end Diamond stuff is exciting, but unfortunately a card like this one with a minimal bundle doesn’t have a lot to offer people”.

Power Supplies are coming in monthly here at Guru3D, there's not a week that passes when a manufacturer is asking if we want to take a look at their PSU. So while for you as an end-user that is pretty exciting .. for an editor after checking out dozens of them .. it tends to get a little boring. Really it's not much fun to test a PSU. Yet, every now and then there however is a manufacturers that can catch our attention.

One PSU that certainly will catch your attention as well is the one we'll be testing for Hiper (High Performance group) today. It's their beefy 680Watt Type RII 680 Watt PSU. A product that costs roughly 120-130 bucks. This PSU immediately will catch your attention die to it's original packaging, the extremely 'out there' paint job and then .. when you look at the front side of the PSU, you'll spot 8 USB connectors. And all that is it next to being an actual PSU.

Oh and next to that, it's just really silent. See the fan control unit on the PSUs keep noise levels to a minimum, based upon normal load. In high-end custom machines the PSU is often one of the biggest noise illicit. Hiper power supplies, especially this model we are testing today offer a quiet alternative. Armed with nice lengthy sleeved cables and connectors for a veritable army of components, the Hiper PSUs are well suited for use in your mod to mid- to high-end systems.

Another advantage, despite the fact that the PSU is rated 680 Watts it can actually peak at 890 Watt, and actually is an energy friendly product .. it has everything to do with it's (advertised) high efficiency topping out at 85%, no worries though, we'll explain and demonstrate that over the next view pages.

The PSU we will be testing today is a SLI/Crossfire ready piece of gear and certainly can chew up anything we throw at it, an investment that'll last a long time as with this PSU your hardware can keep up with you for a while. It's connectors are nicely wrapped in a foil and looks and gives us that sturdy feeling you expect from a quality product.

A PSU with a good feature set with active PFC, short-protection and enough connectivity for the latest high-end components in your system, including a PCI-Express 2.0 8-pins 12 volt rails meaning that this PSU is SLI, and CrossFire ready.
